Auckland - a lock of hair from Napoleon
Bonaparte to be cut after he died worth Rp118 million have been sold at
auction in New Zealand.
Hair Collection is a collection that was
brought to New Zealand in 1864 by Denzil Ibbetson, the British
Commissioner who is also an artist.
Ibbetson served
in St. Helena during Napoleon's six years in exile on the island after
the defeat in the Battle of Waterloo.
Owned collection
comprises 40 kinds of goods, including sketches made by Ibbetson
Napoleon when he died in bed at the age of 51 years, the sketch was sold
to descendants of Ibbetson.
"Collections are
held still in a state that is still good and the family asked to
conserve these objects all the time, the age of 200 years," said
Director Manager Hamis Coney Auction House, as reported by Reuters on
Thursday (07/01/2010).
According to the auction house, the hair
is sold by an anonymous buyer.
Coney said that,
other than an interest that came from New Zealand, there is also a
collector from Hong Kong, the United States, Lithuania, and France.
