Origin of Earth Hour

Earth Hour is an environmental awareness activities are spearheaded by organizations of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Australia, started in 2007 and held on the last Saturday in March each year.
When Earth Hour comes, all the citizens of the world simultaneously turned off the lights and electrical equipment are not needed since 20:30 till 21:30 o'clock local time. This is done to raise awareness of the need for action on climate change and reduce energy consumption.
As quoted from the site Earth Hour, Friday (26/3/2010), initially in 2004 WWF Australia to find new efforts in prevention of global warming. So tercetuslah idea that Earth Hour. Later in development, from year to year Earth Hour campaign was well received and supported by society and government.
Later in 2005, WWF Australia together with the advertising agency Leo Burnett Sydney to discuss the idea of carrying the idea that every person can be responsible personally for the future of earth. They also began to develop the concept of light and electricity blackouts in large scale. This idea is called 'The Big Flick'.
Leo then given the task of making the campaign a name that could represent more than just put out the lights. So in 2006, the concept they changed the name to Earth Hour. As such, they expect a possible Earth Hour campaign to expand the focus from simply turn off the lights.
Right on March 31, 2007, the first Earth Hour was held in Sydney, Australia. At that time, extinguishing the lights done at 19:30 hours until 20:30 local time. Approximately 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney office building managers participated in this activity. This activity then attract international attention. In the following years, Earth Hour was later commemorated globally.
What about Indonesia? This year is the second time Indonesia participated in Earth Hour activities. Earth Hour 2010 will be celebrated on Saturday, March 27 this weekend. Based on the information WWF Indonesia, last year's Earth Hour Jakarta managed to save electricity by 50 MW. As for Java and Bali electricity savings reach 180 MW
